Zaav.com's online store sells premium quality jewelry of every kind and for every occasion, whether it be as an engagement present or to celebrate an anniversary. To ensure that your jewelry last longer and always looks its best, here are some helpful tips on storing and cleaning jewelry:
STORING
Exposing gemstones to impacts or chemicals can potentially ruin the polished surface of a stone or in the case of more brittle stones, can cause cracks. It is thus recommended that you take of your jewelry before doing any work where such a situation can occur.
Always store each piece of jewelry in a different section, preferably in soft cloth pouches or jewelry boxes. Since gemstones and diamonds are hard enough to scratch metal jewelry, they should also be stored separately.
If you only have one jewelry box, carefully wrap up each piece of jewelry in tissue or cloth. Remember, a diamond can only get scratched by another diamond
CLEANING
Diamonds
Mix a mild commercial cleaner, dishwashing liquid for example, with lukewarm water in a bowl, soak the jewelry for 10 minutes and then gently scrub away the dirt with a soft brush. Once this is completed, rinse the diamond jewelry with clean lukewarm water. It is important to try and avoid touching the diamond itself as much as possible.
Gemstones
To clean a gemstone, just mix soap with warm water in a bowl and soak it for several minutes. Once this is done, scrub the stone using a baby toothbrush to remove any dirt or grime.
Important: We strongly recommend not cleaning your jewelry over the sink; the chances of it ending down the drainpipe are too great!
